University of Chester

Established in 1839, the University of Chester is one of the UK’s oldest higher education institutions, pre-dating most universities except Oxford, Cambridge, London, and Durham. It began as the first purpose-built institution for teacher training and has since expanded significantly. The original Parkgate Road site, donated by the Dean and Chapter of Chester Cathedral, continues to serve as a central campus.

Today, the university offers over 420 course combinations, ranging from Animation to Zoo Management, with education qualifications remaining an important focus. Serving around 19,850 students from the UK and over 20 countries, the university fosters a diverse academic community. In addition to undergraduate and postgraduate programs, Chester offers foundation and apprenticeship degrees that integrate traditional study with workplace learning.
